Conservation of Africa’s magnificent wildlife is becoming ever more important and, as the awareness of endangered animals’ fight against extinction increases, so does the interest in the methods and efforts used to conserve them. Many potential travellers to Africa want to see how researchers and conservationists are working to protect some of the continent’s most vulnerable creatures.
So where should you choose to go? If you’re interested in conservation, a Kenya safari to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy is ideal. The conservancy is home to all of the Big Five, zebra, antelope, giraffe and many more species, meaning it’s a great wildlife destination. As well as enjoying traditional safari activities and cultural trips to local villages and schools, you’ll be able to gain unique insight into the world of modern conservation. Inside the endangered species boma, live four northern white rhino as well as the endangered Grevy’s zebra and Jackson’s hartebeest. Guests can visit the boma and watch the creatures go about their daily life. You can also join research teams to track lions across the conservancy. At the Morani Information Centre guests can learn about the species living in Ol Pejeta and how the conservancy operates.
The conservancy is also home to the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the only place to see chimps in Kenya. Guests can take guided visits to the sanctuary, which is home to 39 chimps. You’ll be able to learn more about the dangers this incredible species faces in the wild.
Accommodation on the conservancy is superb, with six different choices, each offering an excellent and varied safari experience.
